The Town of Hospitality known as Hays, Kansas

Tuesday afternoon update:

With the storm shutting down many of the Highways in Kansas the KHP ( Kansas Highway Patrol) said westbound I-70 has been closed at the Hedville Road (exit 244), west of Salina, due to a lack of accommodations.

Trooper Ben Gardner tweeted that they had been advised to keep that stretch of road closed through 8:00 Wednesday morning (or until advised otherwise).

Much of I-70 closed Tuesday morning after heavy snow began to fall and blow across the highway.

KHP Trooper Tod Hileman said he saw several slide-offs but no crashes. So far, no injuries have been reported.

Truck drivers unable to continue on I-70 have been diverted to Hays and Salina. In Hays, the community is running out of room for trucks to park. Buses were used to pick up drivers parked along I-70 and transport them back to town. Local radio stations shared the story of hospitality from the eyes of a driver, that had been picked up by the shuttle and taken to a warm hotel room out of the weather. This was just one of many drivers being looked out for and taken care of by the towns people in Hays KS.
