Simpson Participates in Diversity Panel

From today's Arkansas Democrat Gazette,

Shelley Simpson, a top executive at J.B. Hunt, isn't intimidated by male-dominated meetings.  She views them as opportunities to educate her peers. "Many times I am the solo woman in the room," said the companies chief marketing officer, executive vice president, president of integrated capacity solutions and truck. "Instead of feeling left out, I feel privileged to be in the room because I bring a completely different skill set"

Simpson joined women from Tyson Foods, Sam's Club and Wal-Mart in a panel discussion that focused on diversity in the states companies.  Panel members talked about what it takes to succeed in the corporate world as women, how to encourage diversity, and ways to bridge the divide between millenials and older workers.

Simpson said managers -  women and men- tend to hire workers who look and act like them.  Those managers don't benefit from the varying approaches a diverse group brings, she said.
